1972 MGB GT |
|
1972 MGB GT LHD North American Export Model.
Bronze Yellow with Navy Interior Trim. 45,500 miles and two registered owners from new. Factory options include overdrive (apparently very rare on US cars) and Heated Rear Window. Tax exempt.
MOT’d until 15th July 2014.
This car was a Personal Export and despatched to the then British Leyland distributors for Northern Ireland, W H Alexander Ltd, in November 1972. It’s first owner took delivery and exported it to America shortly afterwards. I believe the car returned to Northern Ireland in 1986 and was advertised for sale shortly afterwards.
The BGT was bought by a local motor trader who sold it to my wife and her then business partner to use as a promotional vehicle. It was given a bare metal repaint as the hot California sun had taken it’s toll on the paintwork. Shortly afterwards the car was put in storage again and left until 2003 when a business decision was made to dispose of it as it had been sitting for fifteen years without turning a wheel.
My wife and I decided to buy it and gave it to a local MG specialist to get running again. By this time a few rust bubbles had appeared, so it was decided to replace the two front wings, sills and one doorskin plus a full repaint to bring the exterior back to pristine condition. Also at this time the interior received attention with re-trimmed seats, new carpets and doorcards . Other items added at this time include five Minator alloy wheels, Moto-Lita steering wheel, Alpine radio cassette, period Lucas driving lamps, Kenlowe electric fan, rear Spax Telescopic conversion, stainless steel exhaust and mudflaps.
Sadly a lack of time has meant that the car has not been used at all for the past three years so the decision has been taken to advertise it for sale. The car comes with it’s original Owners Handbook, Passport to Service, British Leyland Service in Europe booklet and keys (the spare ignition key has never been removed from under the bonnet). The original Rostyle wheels and standard steering wheel are also included. History file includes original green logbooks, original bill of sale, statement of origin and a British Motor Heritage Certificate which confirms matching numbers (including the keys). All the bills, detailing my expenditure, have been retained. This car requires nothing and is ready for it’s new owner to enjoy straight away.
Excellent condition throughout.
