Following requests for clarification, here is the current definition of a beginner autotest driver.
"To qualify as a beginner for the TDC Beginners' Championship, a competitor should have competed in their first ever event involving autotests no more than 11 months before the first round of that Beginners' Championship season. They may then complete that season as a beginner. The winner and runner-up in the previous year's championship may not compete as a beginner in the next season.
The TDC Committee reserves the right to exercise some discretion in regard to a competitor’s status as a beginner and its decision will be final.
TDC Autotest Beginner status is intended for the 'raw' first timer and is not intended to include "occasional" competitors."

Is the aug 11th event happening? If so, where is it?
" Oh yee of little faith " Of course it is happening ! ; wheels turning behind the scenes and suchlike.
Normal service will be resumed...... : The first corner car-park in Mondello (BIG thanks to them, John & Ian) beside the race-school garage. 10.00 am sign on for 11.00 start. Tests are sorted : expressions of interest from person(s?) from Birr, some of the regulars, change of duties for one of 'the crew', and now your good self, Brian !
Regs are due ready and up imminently, or even sooner.
Any queries : I do phone best 087-6774967

Cheers Tim, didn't see this thread, still finding my way around the site
Is this event just in that car park? If so, is it 1 test layout? How many times do you get to drive it ?
How much is the entry and are double drivers permitted?
Just thinking it might be a handy shakedown for team SmashKing before blessington

Yes, it is just in that carpark. We rely on the generousity of Mondello for the venue, and so do not wish to over-extend our welcome by in anyway interfering with other track uses. However, we fit two tests in ; usually done about 4 times each and then joined up for a 'Grand Prix' big test that we run twice more ! Its a format that works, and fits nicely into the timeframe for the day.
Entry for beginners and novices who are TDC Club Members ( €20.00 ; the best value in the country) is a discounted €35.00 , and it goes up to €45/€50 for experts. Double driving is permitted.
I was just thinking it would make great practice for Blessington, too !

Cheers Tim, sounds perfect. I presume we can compete at this and still qualify as a beginner for next season?
And I presume the entry fee is per driver?
Also , are there are any restrictions on cars? I presume a roundy starlet qualifies
I'll find the club membership on the forum here.
Edit - we'll take 2 entry forms when ready!

Very enjoyable little event and thanks to all the organisers.
Great to see some new and familiar faces and I'm looking forward to being a more regular fixture on the entrant list

Agreed, Well run event. Really good fun to get some practice in... I must really try and do some more autotests as I need the practice...
Thanks to Tim, Felix and all the marshals for giving up their time to allow us to take part in these events...

I must admit in the few days before this I wasn't particularly looking forward to it. A couple of things not coming together right.
But they resolved themselves once we got there and set-up. And I ended up having a rather enjoyable day out. I thought, in my very biaised opinion, that it was an excellent days sport.
A very big thanks to Mondello and Ian Beatty for the venue, to the crew of marshalls and officials, even those who bailed out early. Eamonn King owes me two chocolate crispy buns by the way : he was going to an 11 year old's birthday !
A stand out feature was the driving standard : new comers and regulars alike, after a couple of tests got well into it. And the combined test at the end seemed to work well. Well done everyone ! ; the losers ? Those who stayed away !
See you all soon, at Declans, in some capacity.
Tim
P.S Thanks to Damo Phillips and Ciaran Freeney for the presentations of rugby memorabilia : gratefully received and appreciated !
