Hi David, 205 GTI was manufactured after 1985 and as such wouldn't be eligible for retros and you would have to get cleared to enter most of the multi-venues. No clue on insurance.. That's up to you to find out..

Hi David, So long as the car started production prior to 1985 i.e. a 1988 starlet is fine as that model started production in 1984... A starlet/coras is a good option, being simple and reasonably tough...

The 1.6 205 GTi was launched in 1984, the 1.9 came out in 1986

Thanks for that info Peter.. a 1.6 GTi would be fine then.. Get power steering fitted though as I think the steering in those 205's are quite heavy...

A 1990 mini would be much better. Thery have 12 or 13 inch wheels - break diffs quite easily on autotest. 7.5 inch cooper s brake discs and change the wheel size down to 10 inch. You'd have a cracking car then. But much wants more - most people who drive minis in autotests strive towards an MED engine. The holy grail of autotesting a mini.

But yeah, the mini would be much better than a pug 205

you need 's' discs, calipers, and drive flanges to convert to 10s. Its also possible to use mk1/2 fiesta calipers with turned down 8.4inch discs, the hubs need some machining and the hose fitting need to be converted. Thats the way I done it on my green mini, works quite well. You'd be better off try get an older car thats NCT exempt/ has classic tax, if your looking at doing some MultiVenues.
