Hello. Need a bit of help from some of you experienced starlet men. I bought a 94 starlet wit the small 1296 engine to get started in MVAT's. Used clare autotest last saturday as a start/introduction/ get used to car. Car went perfect and really enjoyed the day. Except every now and then and happening with increasing persistence as the day went on, reverse gear would go "missing". Pull lever back into slot, lift clutch and nothing. After 4 or 5 goes fishing I would eventually find it. Then in the next pylon it would select perfect.
Any ideas what would be wrong? Selector? Cable?
Thanks in advance.
Newbie rob lewis.

Hi Rob, With the 5 speed there is the habit of unwittingly touching 5th before going to reverse. What happens is that there is a safety device in the gearbox to avoid accidently selecting reverse from 5th. Some of us change our driving habit, others get this safety lockout removed, thus avoiding the issue.

Hi Rob, if you give me a ring I can let you know a method of disabling the 5th gear lockout without taking the gearbox out of the car. Liam 087-2382735
