This excellent event will take place on Sunday 27th Jan 2019 at the Mondello Park Circuit, Kildare.

Please arrive as early as possible for sign-on. Your compliance would be greatly appreciated. No sign-on after drivers briefing at 09:15. Sign-on opens at 08:00. You are allowed to drive the tests slowly and late sign-on may reduce the time you have for this.

The Mondello canteen will be open for lunch. Please allow the Marshals jump to the head of the queue. We would like to thank the Management & Staff at Mondello Park for their help & support in hosting this TDC event.

Please note that that as per autotest regulations a roll hoop needs to be fitted if you intend to drive a convertible without a hardtop

Important note: Running order is not a seeded entry list. Experience and double drivers will be dispersed throughout the field to speed things along. Please don't arrive to sign-on without knowing your assigned number as this will slow the process.

Watch this space!

We are finalising the details of this fantastic event and expect to have Regulations and Entries available on Monday. Our newly introduced Online Entry Form will also be available and we would urge as many competitiors as possible to use this, you can have your entry in and paid within minutes with no printing, posting or emailing!

Unfortunately due to an increase in the cost of event permits that is out of our control, we have had to raise the entry fee by €5 from last year. This is not a decision that was taken lightly and we too are absorbing some of the increase to keep the cost to you at a minimum. On the bright side and a first for this event, TDC will absorb all PayPal fees meaning there will be no extra cost to use it. So please use it!

Another huge plus is that we will be able to provide one day licences this year at the usual cost of €25. We hope this will encourage some competitors from Northern Ireland who normally compete in closed Targa/Lanes events and are not holders of an annual MSA licence. One thing to note; as this event does not take place on public roads, is that there is no IRDS/BRDS requirement for any competitor regardless of where your licence is issued.

To keep paperwork to a minimum and sign on as fast as possible on the day, we would encourage pre-payment of your entry fee via PayPal and this can now include fees for one day licences and passenger CPA's, all fees will be outlined on the Regulations.

If there's any questions on this event in the mean time, please feel free to post here or contact me directly, otherwise we look forward to receiving your entry early next week.

TYRES:

I have received a few queries with valid concerns. I'll try to clear up for what's allowed specifically for this event.

After speaking with numerous competitors and receiving feedback, the general mood is that some sort of control should be put on tyres. That being said, we are now too close to the event to drastically alter regs, and the following decision has taking this into account.

Rules for tyres are:
E marked and road legal
No ‘For Competition Use Only’ marked tyres
No ‘For Circuit Use Only’ marked tyres
A021R and A050 tyres are allowed as I understand entrants have these in stock or have bought for the event. This list essentially allows any tyres that have been previously used.

These type of events are fun events and are aimed at entry level clubman competitors. The club fully understands the views of competitors and will try to work to a conclusion over the coming events. Ample time will be given if any future tyre rules will come into effect

Hey Mark I hate to throw a spanner in the works with the tyres rule Sad but I think saying no semi slick tyres or track days tyres is too vague as I know from the pastpeople will run track day tyres r1r /a050 / extreme /r888 ect where is the line is a t1r a track tyre. Is the Westlake rs a track day tyre? Personally I think pick out the regs out of the msa blue book tyre s on 1a 1b 1c ect (tdc decide) are allowed it's clear cut then.. It's black and white then. If your trying to inforce a tyre rule. If not leave it open . Just my two sense about it . Don't slate me too much folks 🙈 just my thoughts on it

On R1R’s - they’re actually not a trackday tyre.

Hey kingers this is sort of the point I'm making. to me all the tyres I've listed are e marked (as far as I know) not too sure about a050 the tyre before ao48 s were. Anyway not the point really . They are road tyres at the end of the day. If you go to

Now please don't get me wrong I'm not have ing a go at anyone. I'm not starting a argument. I think this issue should have been resolved years ago. My point is its too vague. Either have a list or have no list ...would be my options. E marked is a good point as it's a road tyre European standard. But dosent solve the point that different people opinion s still comes into play

Darren, thanks for the suggestion.

I had been looking at the MSA 1A regs and I think this list is in keeping with the ruling 'road legal tyres' and we should use it to define road legal tyres.

We can add Yokohama a021R to this list as I know 13" performance tyres are not available for classic cars.
To balance this addition, Toyo R1R can be used for larger wheel circumference.

For reference, I'm don't know anything about what tyres are currently being used. The term road legal tyres is clearly a bit too vague and I think needs defining somehow.

What do you think?

Road legal is if the Guards wouldn't like it; you have the problem.

If you are asking you know there is an issue and we have the problem with what you want to run.

If in doubt : ask. Specifically. Then neither you, your fellow competitors nor the organisers will be facing a 'discussion' on the day.

Take it as ; if you haven't got confirmation they are not allowed.

Its a fun event; not an argument forum.

We must never lose sight of the fact that this branch of motorsport is specifically designed and ran for the clubman, the total part-timer who should competitive on a relatively limited budget.

This is not about banning this tyre, or stopping that guy running x,y, or z. it’s about giving everyone, as much as is realistic, a fair chance without breaking the bank.

It’s about removing the presumption from the newcomer that if he wants to have any sort of chance at being competitive, he must spend hundreds on tyres before he turns the key.

That is not what we should be about. I genuinely cannot see how anyone can have a problem with running off a list such as 1A. everyone has the same choice as everyone else.
If every tyre on the list is ‘crap’, don’t worry, everyone else is fighting with the same crap! It’s a very simple concept. Anyone that has an issue with that concept of everyone being equal, in my view, needs the cheque book tyres to get where they want to be.

If you’re the best driver with the best car then there’s no need to worry, you’ll still win on the same 1a tyre that everyone else has the chance to run Wink

As always, I think the TDC committee do a fantastic job at running the club and put on brilliant events, so thanks to one and all once again for all the effort – we know this is your spare time, so your patience, consideration and wise words are very much appreciated 

I’m sure the committee are blue in the face of debating this and we appreciate their efforts in trying to resolve what is a difficult problem, with so many tyres, specs and sizes to fit a fairly diverse field of cars.

Darren, I actually agree with the principles of what you’re saying. The rules are a bit grey at the moment and the situation whereby we appear to have a new set of rules for just Mondello and uncertainty for the rest of the season is not great from a competitors perspective. I need to buy tyres and don’t want them useless after Mondello!

The root of the problem that there are limited choice in 13’’ and 15’’ tyres. A021R’s are available in 185/70/13, Nankang NS2R’s and Toyo 888’s in 185/60/13. So, it appears that this why the A021R exemption is in place, even though they were banned last season (Tim confirmed same here - http://www.tdcireland.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1383 )

At the same time, I think there’s a balance to be set so there’s a range of tyres that are of reasonable quality but not too sticky and costly. The ceiling needs to be drawn and I agree that clarity is needed on this for the WHOLE SEASON.

I want to be competitive and have a reasonable level of performance but not dropping nearly €290 (inc fitting) on a set of A050’s that didn’t last me one event during the summer.

I think a permitted list of tyres or banned list should be debated further and the tyre rules enforced at events.

I know this is Clubman Motorsport and one of the great things about it is the lack of friction compared to circuit racing etc Very Happy That said, the top end of the field prepare their cars seriously and are very commited behind the wheel. It is clear to me that tyre choice is the biggest performance differentiator. At the end of the day, I think we all want as level a playing pitch as possible, with reasonable quality tyres and at an affordable price range, so that nobody is at an unfair disadvantage to their peers. Hopefully a positive debate on this will get us to there eventually 
